23/5 1000 rider 13 has departed from the palace and is heading to Barnard Castle to finish his ride. Fuzz has scratched at Crosby Ravensworth, same place he did last year ironically.

23/5 0900, morning news, sorry for the late start to the news, I’ve moved camp to the cinema to greet some riders who have bailed.

Up front we have rider number; 11 and 18 Bradley and Jamie unable to shake either off, I’m secretly hopeful they make it to end together and it becomes a Hollywood film. Riders 1 and 14 Brett Doherty and John Rigby are in front, their ETA should be around dinner time. Jasmijn Muller bailed at a friends house in Hawkshead.

This is the remaining route they have to ride from the tea rooms back to Longridge, there’s a beer in the fridge when they get here and chilli on the stove.

22/5 2300, Video from Mark and Joe on their Hell.

22/5 1920, Video with Alex who abandoned at Penrith today.

22/5 1900, apologies for the radio silence, had to let a rider collect their bag from HQ, here’s the latest photos from the day.

22/5 0950, Scratch report, Rider 12 Patrick Realtic has scratched due to knee issues, is snuggled in a mates house before heading back current location was atop Honnister Pass

“Hiya Dan
Gonna have to scratch 👎 knee couldn’t handle the lumps, will come with friendlier gearing next time!

I have a friend nearby so will just head over there

Thanks for such a great & brutal route, bloody loved it 💪💪”

22/5 0945, the lakes section, most if not all riders are well into the left side of the M6 section, what does this look like, well it’s bloody brutal, stabby bastards, epic scenery and not much land mass to avoid the wind….

22/5 0930, swearing messages on whatsapp are coming in regarding the hills… He’s in Gosforth, best not tell him what he’s about to climb…. Hardknott.

22/5 0925, Food photos inbound, it’s a long way from Keswick to Gosforth with some major climbs to do too.

22/5 0900, Abandon report, Rider number 6 Mark Agar, stay safe everyone out there, eat, drink, stay warm and keep moving. Edit, Mark has messaged and is back in the game!

22/5/21 morning report What a night!

Scratches; Rider 9 Gavin Scott, Rider 21 John Cooke, Rider 19 James Reese, Rider 22 Rob Donaghy.

Most riders chose to bunker down for the night, many upgraded from John Allan’s toilet stop and are sleeping in hotels, there’s a shivering video from rider 48 (see link in below link) in a hotel, or even a pub floor.

Others did make it over Hartside pass, Rider 19 did, but the descent possibly chilled him right down and he headed to Penrith. Rider 18 and 11 Bradley and Jamie have just checked in at 8am and they’re in Gosforth eating a load of food before doing Hardknott pass.

The ride to CP2 looks like this, a very long climb ahead if it’s a tail wind then great and if it’s a head wind then hopefully they’ll have some shelter.

21/05/21 1600 CP1 for Jasmijn Muller looking good and smiling

21/05/21 1436, So what’s the route like to CP1? It’s a beautiful ride, starting with Jeffrey hill flowing through the forest of Bowland over Cross O’Greet, over into Ingleton, past the Ribblehead Viaduct, into Hawes, Thwaite and into Gunnerside. You can’t ask for a nicer start.

21/05/21 1420, Rider 12 Patrick is at CP1
